Old and new sit side by side at the St Feuillien brewery. Alan Hope meets the brother and sister at the helm of a true family business
The first thing a visitor to the St Feuillien brewery in Le Roeulx near Mons notices are the impeccably maintained original brick buildings where the Friart family has been brewing beer since 1873. The second thing the visitor notices is, just across the courtyard, an enormous glass window through which the state-of-the-art brewing hall is visible. A better image of “innovation through tradition”, the slogan of the Belgian Family Brewers, would be hard to find.
