What was intended to be a tasting of some new beers at Pierre Zuber’s shop Delices & Caprices in central Brussels got off to a rather awkward start. Zuber was concerned that Belgian Beer & Food was about to perform a hatchet-job on the Belgian beer tradition, in favour of some new-fangled trend or other. Nothing, obviously, could have been further from our minds, and the suggestion was so interesting the discussion took over the morning, so that we barely got around to tasting beer at all.
“The last thing I want to do is to act as a PR for novelties, at the same time as sweeping away the past,” he says. “And that’s something that’s happening at present.
