Café Monk Reopens on April 16

cafemonkThe classic Brussels beer café on Place Sainte-Catherine held a
festive re-opening on April 16 after 10 months of being closed
following the previous owners’ bankruptcy. The four partners behind the
current takeover – manager Sven Campens, chef Jurgen Campens, owner
Dirk Leunis and financial director Filip Jans – are jointly investing
€400,000 to give the pub a new lease on life. The former smoking room
in the back of the café is now a dining area with seating for 60, where
snacks like spaghetti bolognese and good quality cheese will be served.
Live concerts, jazz jam sessions and DJ sets will also be a part of the
new setup. “We wanted to make a cafe with a good atmosphere and customer
service,” Filip Jans told brusselnieuws.be. “There are six beers on
tap, plus a dozen more from the bottle on the menu.”
